Ulverscroft
This project transforms a constrained infill site in London, replacing a row of derelict garages with a compact contemporary dwelling that responds sensitively to its Nineteenth Century context. The design balances a clear modern identity with a scale and material language that allows it to sit comfortably within the established streetscape.
A key driver of the scheme was the need to protect light and amenity to neighbouring properties. This led to the building being set down into the site, creating a split-level arrangement that maximises usable space while minimising visual impact. The form is further articulated through a dual roof strategy, with a flat roof to the front and a raised mono-pitch to the rear, giving the house a sculptural quality.

Natural light is fundamental to the internal experience. A large skylight positioned above the rear kitchen draws daylight deep into the open-plan ground floor, enhancing the sense of openness within the compact plan. The first floor accommodates two bedrooms, alongside a main bathroom and an en-suite wetroom, arranged for efficiency and comfort.
The house is constructed from a timber structure with high-performance insulated render cladding, achieving strong thermal efficiency and a crisp, flush aesthetic between glazing and wall planes. Externally, a sunken landscaped garden provides a private amenity space and extends the living environment, reinforcing the project’s role as a considered and contemporary approach to urban infill housing.





Constrained Site:
The proposal relates to a tight infill garage site where the constrained nature of the plot presents design and construction challenges. The development is also subject to a range of planning constraints that must be carefully addressed within the scheme. In addition, noise constraints associated with the surrounding context require particular consideration to ensure an acceptable level of amenity for future occupants and neighbouring properties.
