The clients approached us having just purchased a self-build on the outskirts of London. RDA were briefed to provide our clients with a Code Level 4 qualifying sustainable contemporary yet flexible home on a tight budget.

The design was developed to offer a modernist design and to reflect the flexible spatial requirements that a growing young family will need. The building was proposed to be highly airtight, and to reach a very effective energy efficiency.

The scheme also utilises a wind catcher in order to provide natural ventilation. The sustainable aspects were further reinforced by the use of a solar water heating system, low temperature wet underfloor heating system and solar controlled louvre system on the south-western glazed garden to maintain thermal comfort.
